I follow the beast to the forest edge. The massive blue wolf pads across the moss and gems silently vanishing in and out of time, never looking in my direction. My bare feet sting from the magic gems sunk into the rock and earth. Our kind don't come here without aging. I scramble up the boulders and in hunt of the blue wolf mother, catching and losing sight of the fractal beast for days, the tourmaline forest sapping my time. Suddenly, and at least, she turns her head back to me, fixes her gaze, and whispers,
